The Meaning of Rain

This is for Poetic Asides:

The prompt: to write a poem titled “The Meaning of ___”

Permission. Hot tea, cold juice: in bed
with Beowulf. The lawn furniture turns black,
and birds cower. The insect’s body, more water than meat. His secret
pale organs. How does his body
contain them?

Why are the leaves deep and bright in the darkness?
